From 20th April 2026, you will be required to use multifactor authentication (MFA) to sign in to your conservatoire Microsoft 365 account when working off campus. This includes when you access to systems which use Microsoft 365 to log in, like Space and Show.
Set Up and Configure MFA
The first time you sign in to your Microsoft 365 account after 20th April, you will need to set up and configure MFA. You will need two devices, for example a laptop and a smartphone.
Instructions
- Open outlook.office.com and sign in using your normal student email and password.
Do not download the outlook app at this point
2. You will be taken to the following screen. Click Next
3. You will be prompted to install the Microsoft Mobile Phone Authenticator.
- If you’re using an android device, you will be directed to the Google Play Store.
- On an apple device, you will be directed to the Apple App Store
Download and install the Authenticator by following the instructions provided in the app store. Once you have done this, click “next”.
Once you’ve installed the Microsoft Authenticator, you will need to pair the authenticator to your student account. You will see the following options:
Option 1:
Click on “Pair your account to the authenticator by clicking this link”
Choose this option if you do not currently have access to a mac or PC. The link will open the Authenticator app on your device and pair your account.
When you return to outlook.office.com, you will be asked to provide a 2-digit number. You will now be able to find that number on the Authenticator App. Enter the number as requested in outlook.office.com. You have now paired your student account with Microsoft Authenticator.
Option 2:
Click on “Show QR Code”
Choose this option if you are logged into outlook on your PC or Mac.
A QR code will display on your PC or Mac
Scan the QR code with your mobile device’s camera and click “next”.
You have now paired your student account with Microsoft Authenticator. Click “Done”.
Additional Information
Once you have followed the above steps to configure your multifactor authentication, you won’t need to repeat this process.
Each time you sign in to your conservatoire Microsoft account off-campus, you will need to use your authenticator app to get your one-time code before.
