Overview

At Leeds Conservatoire, we utilise the “Follow Me” system, which allows staff and students to print to a single queue and collect their prints using their Conservatoire ID. All printers support colour and greyscale printing, and all have photocopying/scanning functionality. Students must sign into a Conservatoire computer to print. Printing from your own device is not currently supported.

Financial Information

Students automatically receive £22.50 in print credit at the beginning of each academic year. Printing costs 9p per sheet, regardless of whether it is in greyscale or colour.

You can check your printing balance by logging into any Conservatoire device and checking the Printing Utility Client.

If students wish to top up their print credit, they can do so at the Library counter. Card only payments, cash is not accepted.

Printing Instructions

  1. Open the print options on the relevant application

  2. Select printer queue
    - Mac: Follow_Me
    - PC: Student_Follow_Me on LCONPrint

  3. Configure print options: A4 and A3 are the only supported print sizes. Please use the Printer Information Table for more details. For greyscale (black and white) printing, you can either configure this in the printer config window or select this at the print in the Print Release menu.

  4. Select print, and wait for 10-20 seconds for any errors to appear (see FAQs for examples)

  5. Locate a printer that meets your printing requirements, and scan your ID card - if you do not have your ID card, or scanning does not work, you can also use the login window.

  6. Select "Print Release", then select your print job and apply any additional settings (double-sided, greyscale, etc.)

  7. Select print.

  8. You should then see a "completed" notification

Photocopying and Scanning

Users will need to scan their ID card/log in in order to access photocopying and scanning. 'Copy' will print out a physical copy of the item; 'Scan' will send a digital copy to the user's institutional email.

The cover of the printer should be opened, and items should be placed face-down on the scanner bed. It's a good idea to 'Preview' the copy/scan before confirming, as adjustments may need to be made.

If photocopying/scanning printed music, users should report these copies under the Higher Education Printed Music Licence. There are signs at both library printers with QR codes/links that will take you to the appropriate form to fill in.

Common Issues and Troubleshooting

  • Always make sure jobs are being sent to the correct printer. The settings often default to 'Adobe PDF', which is not a printer but will instead convert the document to a PDF.

  • If a document opens in Adobe Acrobat and the student does not already have an account, the application will often close before the student has a chance to print the document. Students can create Adobe accounts by:
    1. Opening Adobe Acrobat from the desktop shortcut and selecting 'Create an account'
    2. Entering their student email address and creating a password
    3. Entering their name and date of birth
    4. Entering the verification code sent to their email address

  • If a user is sending a document to print and it isn't appearing as an option when they go to release it, they may be trying to print something to a paper size that the printer cannot handle, e.g. A5. They will need to re-send their printing as either A4 or A3.

  • If the printer says there is no paper when photocopying, this is not necessarily the case. The user may be trying to photocopy something that the printer cannot recognise the size of (usually sheet music or an ID card/passport). There should be an option on the printer menu to select a different tray - this will force the print job to go through on A4 or A3 instead.

  • Any other issues should be report to the relevant support team found below.
