You can download an accessible PDF version of this answer at the bottom of the page. Alternatively, watch the screencast overview of these instructions on Panopto.
Before submitting your work, always make sure you’ve identified the correct submission type.
Instructions
- Open the Assignment Submission Portal, this is located after its corresponding Assignment Brief in the My Assignment section of the Module Page on Space.
- Note the information at the top of the page and scroll down to the submission status box, once here select “add submission”.
- On the edit submission page, you need to fill out the following form fields:
- Read the declaration and tick the checkbox
- Upload the file(s) required by the assessment task
- Select your Panopto session(s) for submission
- Add your assignment length
File Upload
- In the file submission section, note the accepted file types. You can only submit the file types specified, you can also find these on the assignment brief. Each file you upload cannot be more than 2 GB in size, and you can submit a maximum of 20 files per assignment.
- Refer to the File Types guidance for ensuring compatibility and converting your submission files.
- Drag the file(s) you wish to upload into the file upload area.
- Alternatively, click the file upload area and in the next window click “browse” to locate a file on your device.
- You should ensure all work you upload is labelled correctly or submission: [assignment code], [your student ID number], [assignment title]. This information can be found at the top of the assignment submission portal or in the assignment brief.
- For example: MEX4E001R~005 01234567 Example Panopto and Files assignment.
- You will see a progress bar filling as your file uploads. The upload must be complete before you can submit the file.
- Once you see a file thumbnail, your upload is complete
Select Your Panopto Session(s)
- Click the Panopto icon in the “Panopto video link” field to either upload your video(s) or choose an existing session you uploaded to Panopto earlier.
Method 1 – Uploading Your Video(s)
- In the “insert from Panopto” pop up window, make sure you sign-in, and then choose the “upload” tab.
- In the drop-down box, make sure you select the module’s assignment folder; for example, “Example Module Page (MEX4C001R) (2025-26) [assignments]”.
- You can quickly find the correct assignments folder by searching for the module code in the drop-down box.
- It is important you upload your work to the assignment folder which corresponds with the module your work is for, otherwise markers may be unable to access it.
- Select the file(s) you need to upload, either by dragging and dropping them into the window or clicking in the box and choosing them on your device.
- You can upload video and audio files to Panopto, refer to your assignment brief and the assignment guidelines for specific advice.
- Whilst your file(s) are uploading, you can rename it. All work uploaded to Panopto should be labelled with the assignment code, your student ID, and a title of your choice. E.g. “MEX4E001R~003 01234567 My Video”.
- Do not close the window until your upload has completed and you can see that all the sessions are “processing”.
- Once your upload(s) are all “processing”, you can press the “insert” button to add them to the submission form.
Method 2 – Choose Previously Uploaded Sessions
- You can do this if you uploaded your sessions to Panopto before coming to the submission form.
- In the “insert from Panopto” pop up window, make sure you sign in, and then select the “choose” tab.
- Locate the session(s) you want to choose, ensuring they are in the correct assignment folder, and select them using the checkboxes
- Once all sessions are selected, press “insert” to add them to the submission form.
- No matter which of the two methods you used to add your session(s) to the form, we always recommend you play your video(s) back in full to make sure they are ready and correct for submission.
- If your session is still processing, you will have to wait until it finishes in order to play it. Once ready you will be able to click play, you don’t need to refresh the page.
- Once all your files have been uploaded and sessions have been selected in the “Panopto video link” field, complete the other fields on the submission form:
- Check the declaration box
- Add your assignment length in minutes and seconds
- Press “save changes” to submit your assignment
- You will be returned to the submission status page, where you will be able to see your work has been submitted for grading. You can also click the thumbnail of your Panopto session(s) to view them and check your specified assignment length on this page.
- Clicking the “+” icon in the Panopto video link field allows you to see all the videos you attached to the submission form.
- Your work is ready to be marked by the assessors, check back once the grades have been released for your marks and feedback.
Submitting Panopto and Files assignments after the submission deadline
If you missed the assignment deadline, you can still submit your work up to 7 days after the deadline, however a late penalty will be applied once your submission is marked.
If you have an extension granted by student support or approved additional consideration, and you want to submit after your extended deadline, you must complete the Submission Portal Unlock Form. Once your submission is unlocked, you can submit up to 7 days after your extended deadline; but be aware your work will be subject to a late penalty.
